Recognize the common symptoms of a heart attack and act quickly.
A heart attack can present in different ways, and symptoms may vary from person to person.
Common warning signs include:
• Chest discomfort, pressure, squeezing, or fullness
• Pain in one or both arms, back, neck, jaw, or stomach
• Shortness of breath
• Cold sweat, nausea, or lightheadedness
Symptoms may develop gradually or occur suddenly. Some people—especially women—may experience more subtle signs such as unusual fatigue, nausea, or back discomfort.
Never ignore persistent chest discomfort or pressure. Acting quickly can reduce heart damage and save lives.
Emergency Action
If you or someone near you experiences these symptoms, call 911 immediately. Do not attempt to drive yourself to the hospital.
